I haven't made many attempts at painting close-up portraits. This one was done completely from scratch from my imagination with some success, but I'm leaning more toward using solid photo reference for future studies. I still want to be able to paint without being too dependent on photos, but I also want to master more of the subtleties and nuances of detailed work.
